How to pass road test or driving test in US/CANADA? Tips to succeed..

Come to drive test center before half or one hour ago from the schedule to check in.
Bring your documentation. (ID, receipt)
Bring documentation regarding your car. (i.e. Insurance, registration, inspection etc.)
Bring a car which is fully functional. A car whose doors, windshield, signals etc. are broken will not be accepted for the road test.

Before starting the road test, examiner will check some properties of your car: Right signal(rear and front), left signal (rear and front), brake signal. Make sure that all of them work properly. Choose a car you are comfortable with. This means that you know controls of the car very well like: wipers, headlights, emergency lights etc. Since you may need to use those during the test and you are expected to do regarding action. For example, if it is raining, you are expected to run wipers. If it is dark, you are expected to turn on headlights.

QUICK TIPS

-Do not forget to fasten your seat belts.

- Adjust your mirrors before the exam.

-Hold steering wheel always with two hands in 9 and 3 o'clock position.

-Check your mirrors and observe surroundings regularly.

-Check your blind spot (shoulder look) when changing lanes and turning right/left  in an observable manner by the examiner

-Signal when turning or changing lanes.

-Check your mirrors regularly and observe surroundings.

-Obey the speed limits posted. If not posted, obey the speed limits of your own state.

-Leave enough room between you and the car in the front at red light and stop sign. (You should see the rear wheel of the car in front of you)

-Come to a complete stop at stop signs or red light.

DO NOT talk too much with the examiner !
This does not mean that never talk to examiner. If you have any questions, it is better to ask it at the beginning of road test. If you do not understand any order of the examiner during the test, do not hesitate to ask and clarify it before doing anything. Don't forget that this an exam, not a talk show!

PARKING
You will be tested for your parking abilities. Practice parallel parking and back parking before the exam until you feel comfortable with them.

1- Parallel parking

  • Do not forget to give right signal before starting parallel parking.

2- Back parking

  • Signal to the side which you move to.
  • Check all mirrors and blind spot.
  • Turn and look behind while holding wheel with both hands.

3- Emergency parking
Turn on emergency lights and do parking.

4- Uphill parking
After you parked the vehicle, do not forget to turn your wheels to the LEFT so that back of the tires touch to the curb.

5- Downhill parking
After you parked the vehicle, do not forget to turn your wheels to the RIGHT so that front of the tires touch to the curb.

NOTE: After parking, you might be asked to go into the traffic again. Do not forget to check your mirrors and blind spot and give left signal.

THREE-POINT TURN
Three point turn is actually turning back of the road. It takes its name from the number of maneuver when you are turning back. You will be asked to perform 3-point turn in a narrow street or road so that the road will not allow you to turn back at one time. Then you need 3 maneuvers. First, go left  of the road then back up and go straight. Do not forget the give proper signalling in each maneuver, i.e. left, right, left respectively.

STOP SIGNS

Stop

  • Come to a complete stop before the white line so that you can still see the line.
  • Check both ways first for pedestrians and yield the right of way to pedestrians if exist.
  • Proceed a little bit to have a better vision of vehicles coming from both sides and again come to a complete stop.
  • Wait until it is safe, and proceed cautiously when it is safe.

Stop All Way

  • Come to a full stop before the white line so that you can still see the line.
  • Since Stop All way intersections serve as first-come-first-served basis, observe the timing of other vehicles and proceed when turn is yours. If you do not move although turn is yours, it is again a failure.

CHANGING LANES
  • Check mirrors and blind spot
  • Signal
  • Change lane when it is safe

INTERSECTION

1-Right Turn at the Intersection
If the light is red, come to a complete stop before the white line.
Give right signal.
Unless otherwise stated, turning right at red signal is legal when it is safe to do so. Therefore, if the road is safe and clear, proceed right with caution. While turning right on red, do not forget to yield to pedestrians.
When the signal is green, check your mirrors and blind spot, then turn right.
While turning, keep in the right lane. Never pass to the left side of the middle line.

2-Left Turn at the Intersection

If left green arrow is active, proceed safely.
If the left green arrow is not active (only green signal is on), then first give right of way to oncoming traffic. Then turn left when it is safe.
While turning, keep in the left lane. Never pass to the right side of your right line.

3-Going Straight at the Intersection

If the light is red, come to full stop but leave a room between the car in front of you.
Even if the light is green, check both sides of the road and proceed safely.

SUMMARY and CONCLUSION

  • Practice above skills in the traffic before the exam
  • Drive smoothly/naturally and do not impede traffic
  • Drive around the speed limits, do not drive too slow.
  • Hearing honks from another vehicles is a bad sign but it does not mean that you will fail.
  • Several minor mistakes are ok unless you experienced a dangerous event (with a vehicle or a pedestrian).

How to Fill out a Cheque?

In this post, I will demonstrate how to fill out a cheque properly. You can have a cheque book either from your bank or any store. If you find these two suggestions expensive, you could also design and print out your own cheque. In Figure 1, a sample cheque is displayed and in Figure 2, some regions of the sample cheque are highlighted. Figure 1: Sample unfilled cheque. Figure 2: Some regions are highlighted in sample cheque. 1- Name and Address of Payer: Name and  address of the person who is the owner of this cheque and is filling out the cheque should be written in this region. 2- Date: For any official document, date is a mandatory field and hence you should write current date in this region. 3- Payee Name: Payee could be either a person or an organization (Store, Restaurant, Company, School etc.) You should write the name of the payee here explicitly. 4- Amount of Payment (Numeric): Exact amount of the payment should be w

Star Wars ASCIImation with Python - Windows

In this post, we'll watch a Star Wars movie in ASCII format. The only thing we need for this demo is Python-installed PC and internet connection. Figure : Screenshots from Python Command line while Star Wars is being streamed All credits gained in this demo will go to " blinkenlights.nl " [2] website, which broadcasts this ASCII movie using Telnet protocol on Port 23, and Python which makes socket implementation very easy for us. No authentication is needed for this broadcast. Anyone who is able to create a TCP socket and listens  blinkenlights.nl  on port 23 would be able to get this stream and display on their Python command line. CODE My main source for Python source code is [1]. What  code below does is simply importing Python "socket" library, create a socket, use " towel.blinkenlights.nl " address variable to create connection, receive data from socket and display it. While typing (copy/paste) code, be careful about indentatio
